Words from the Designer
Building on the “Kakke Pants” from 001, I created these shorts where only the knees are exposed. They have a 7/8-length cut. The waist is loose, and the silhouette changes depending on how the fabric gathers at the hips. It’s an unusual shape. I had the fabric—originally a black-brown block check found in Bishu with an interwoven pattern—changed to black and pink. I feel the vibrant pink creates a striking contrast with the high-quality, pre-washed linen, resulting in a fabric with a unique, slightly jarring quality. The linen yarns were dyed separately before weaving, then woven on an old-fashioned dobby loom. The subsequent washing process enhances the three-dimensionality of the weave pattern while accentuating the crisp texture characteristic of linen.
