I set out to meticulously craft a classic, everyday shirt, but having rarely worn ordinary shirts myself, I struggled to define what a simple, good shirt should be. It features a high neck and plenty of gathers below the yoke. With a wide sleeve opening, a gently curved hem, and a length that’s not too long, this might just be oira’s version of an everyday shirt. As I continue this collection, I’ll keep exploring what my shirts should be. I found a black-brown block-check fabric in Bishu, but had it changed to black and pink. The vibrant pink contrasts with the high-quality, pre-washed linen, creating a fabric that feels slightly incongruous. The linen yarns are dyed separately in their raw state, woven on an old-fashioned dobby loom, and then washed. This process enhances the three-dimensionality of the weave while accentuating the crisp texture characteristic of linen.
