Words from the Designer
I’ve made hoodies and hooded jackets out of woven fabrics before, but this is the first oira hooded coat that truly feels right to me. The front placket resembles the collar of a kimono, the artisan-style pocket details, the unconventional pocket placement, and the hand-sewn snap buttons. For me, it strikes a very pleasing balance. It seems like it could be made with various fabrics—soft linen that conforms to the body, or stiff linen that provides structure and dimension. I found this linen denim at a dyeing factory in Kyoto. It’s incredibly soft, lustrous, and simply amazing! Although we only have a limited amount of this fabric this time, I like it so much that I’d like to use it as a base and work with the factory to reproduce it in the future.
